Funnel Cakes

Its almost the season here for county fairs, state fairs and such. You can always find Funnel cakes (sweet fried dough covered in powered sugar) at such events, but I am wondering if they are strictly an American treat? Do you have Funnel Cakes where you live?

  1. I am in India, and I have not seen exactly a funnel cake, at least not with the yummy powdered sugar and twisty turny shapes I would have in the US. there are some versions of fried dough

  7. Picture of a funnel cake off the web, since I don't have a photo of one after it was done.

In some areas here, they also call them Elephant Ears.

So far, funnel cakes only seem to be found in the continental U.S. I wonder about Canada?

  8. To me, funnel cakes are best when enjoyed as you stroll through a fair or carnival in the fall. When we have our next fair, I'll snap a shot and share. They are DELICIOUS and the aroma is wonderful.

since you've been to the islands, you probably know what malasadas are - the funel cakes remind me of that =)

  12. I would be really impressed if anyone could eat two funnel cakes! They are huge and very sweet, it gives me a stomach ache just thinking about it. :)

  13. For the right price, I can probably eat two. And if I didn't eat anything else that day.

  15. I want in on that bet too. If they have enough sugar on them, then I can eat two. I might pass out from the sugar rush, but it is so worth it.
