Sowing the Seeds

I posted a bit ago about the Travis Park Church. This was the shot I was hoping to get last time I passed it by and this time I got it. I didn't realize what it was until I uploaded the photo. I reckon it could be Johnny Appleseed.

Chola Girl

Saw this decal on a car on the way out of SouthPark Mall in the south side of San Antonio. I thought she was cute so couldn't pass up the shot. I always hope people don't think I'm casing their car. I've seen a lot of decals out and about, but at least not as many as there used to be of Calvin leaving his mark all over things. :D

National Shrine of the Little Flower

This is the National Shrine of the Little flower, located in the west side of San Antonio, or there-abouts. It's not too far from downtown San Antonio. I like the gold domes and the statues up top. I wanted to go inside this day, but there was a wedding about to go on and I didn't want to interfere with anyone's day. I did get shots from all angles.

Fast Food Nation

Another fast food joint. I hadn't eaten here in a while, but I went there for lunch today. I love to get one of the platters; it makes a lunch and dinner for me.

BTW we rang the bell on the way out as directed by the sign that states something to the like "If we did good, ring the bell". They yell out thanks when you do that.

The clouds are left over from all the rain, we were supposed to have showers today, but I don't think it rained at all. It was a little warm and humid, but also a little bit of a cool breeze. According to the weather casters, Saturday will be our last day of unseasonal not heat, come Sunday the normal heat of a Texas Summer will once more beat down upon our weary backs.

Da Boys are Back in Town

The Dallas Cowboys are back in San Antonio for Training Camp. This camp is open to the public. Up or down, good or bad, the Boys, much like the Spurs have always held my loyalty.

Standing in the Rain

It's been so rainy lately in San Antonio, I've wished for an umbrella many a time. I actually had one on this day. In the morning as I was getting dropped off to work it really didn't help much I still got soaked, and then was cold all day in an air conditioned building. In the afternoon when it came time for me to get picked up it was only drizzling a bit so I didn't really need it, but still it was handy to have around.

A Skyline of Cranes

This is new to my view/skyline—at least I think it is else I haven't noticed it before, and I'm notorious for not noticing stuff, but I would think that I would notice something this big and different, especially since lately all I've been noticing is grey skies. Not sure what these cranes are for, some kind of construction I'm assuming.

Travis Park Church Tower

I loved the way this tower looked as I walked by it. I've walked by it a couple of times, but I don't think I've ever seen it quite like this. I had to cross the street to get the vantage I wanted. There was also some nice chiseled in text/engraving on the front of the building, but there was people in the shot and I didn't want to disturb them—will try to get a shot of it at a later date. This is the church that's famous, at least locally, for advocating for the homeless. They feed them and the pastor/priest has even gotten arrested a few times or almost arrested for his beliefs and stance on the issue.

All Fogged Up

It's been so humid in San Antonio, that windows are all fogging up. This is a window at the Central Library. You can see to the left the new book fiction section. They usually have some kind of display going. This is a beach reads display. I like the Castaway font and the beach ball. In the center of the photo you can also see Axis Mundial by Sebastian, or the mini Tower of Friendship—as I like to think of it. Behind AM you can barely make out the escalators and to the right is the entrance to the gallery which is showing an exhibit called Sabor Botero by a local artist [edit: Gilbert Duran]. At the farthest right you can see the Non-Fiction new books. The first shelf also holds displays. This month it's focusing on One Book One San Antonio on the left and Cinema Soledad on the right. I know there's something in the middle, but I can't remember what it is [edit: finally remembered, after seeing a photo of it, Hurricane's (haven't actually experienced any of these, only some of their effects, including those fleeing from them—Gilbert, Katrina, Rita), Typhoons (My baby bro went through a couple of these the times he was in Okinawa), and Cyclones].

Peek-a-Boo

On the drive in to work we played peek-a-book with the Tower of America's. We've been getting so much rain lately that I guess the clouds are kind of hanging low. It wasn't foggy, the top of the tower was just hidden by low flying clouds. I wondered what it looked like from the observation tower, and hell even from the elevator.

Acadiana's

This is an interior shot of Acadiana's. They sell I guess mainly cajun food. Their wait staff is eggscellent, and just enough off the norm that I love it. This main eating has two fireplaces on oppposite sides. I think the last time we ate here someone told me that they actually light the fireplaces, but I haven't seen it so I won't swear to it. I love their chicken and dumplings and their mashed potatoes aren't bad either. I don't much care for their lemonade because it's Minute Maid, but oh well. Their nachos with beans, sausage and shrimp are great—if you can get a taste before they are gone. Their Mississippi Mud Pie is dangerously decadent, but if you share it it shouldn't be too bad. >:)

Looking Up

These flags can be seen at the International Center in downtown San Antonio. I took it from the first floor looking up. The International Center used to be the old Main Library.—which is now located at the old Joske's location. The International Center is pretty with lots of glass and really colorful inside. Some of the colors remind me of the Central Library. It's balconies and walkways have eggscellent views of the river. It also has a sushi place on the first floor. The Convention and Visitors Bureau of San Antonio is located on the 2nd floor.

Rappelling at Central

Saw these ropes hanging off the Central Library and was trying to get a shot of the rappellers. I was finally able to hunt two down. This photo isn't the most exciting one, but it does show the rappeller on the 6th floor, which is pretty much as high as the Central Library goes.

Grand Prixing

We went to Incredible Pizza on Blanco and West Ave for a birthday party. First time we had been there. They had a pretty decent selection of food for the adults and kids, a couple of decent places to hang out while eating said food and the game room ranked top with the kids. They had a Black Light Miniature Golf Course, Grand Prix, bowling, bumper cars, and the usual assortment of games.

Ceiling Work

This piece of ironwork can be seen at the City of San Antonio's Information Technology Services Department. It's in the lobby's ceiling, directly above the receptionist desk.

"Under Construction"

Sometimes it seems like everything in S.A. is under construction these days: roads, hotels, new houses... that's "progress", I guess.

San Antonio's R2 unit

This R2-D2 mailbox is located at the corner of Alamo and Houston streets. It is decorated to "TIE" (pardon the pun) in with the new Star Wars stamps for sale.

Crouching Tower, Hidden Dragon

I like the way the Tower of the Americas seems to be hiding amongst the other buildings. It's an optical illusion - the Tower is really much taller and farther away.

Sea Island

This is the inside of a San Antonio resaurant called Sea Island Shrimp House. This one is on the south side of San Antonio on Military. I liked all the neon advertising. I had their lunch special which consists of shrimp and fish.

Alameda Girl

If you get a chance, stop by the Central Library Gallery and check out the current exhibit. It's called Sabor Botero and contains paintings by a local San Antonio artist by the name of Gilbert Duran. I love this particular painting.

Scottish Rite Cathedral

I pass this by everytime I head to River Center Mall. I've always wanted to stop in but never had a chance. I like the look of it.

Themish Day: The Color Red

Saw this and couldn't resist getting a photo of it as I went to grab a bite of breakfast. This much red this early in the morning certainly woke me up.
