Serenity

A quiet place for reflection. This is at the craft center behind the library where we work. I love it here.

Red and Blue

A twist of red against a blue blue Texas sky.

Shorty took a photo of the entire Torch of Friendship last month.

Where the sidewalk ends or begins...

Even though this is where the sidewalk ended for me, it's technically where the Riverwalk begins. Confused yet??

Cubby o'cans

Interior of the winning Canstruction design. A typical office cubicle make entirely out of cans, including a mostly salmon and anchovy chair. Looks like more fun than my cubby!

Pirates of the Can o'beans

A ship made out of cans of beans, and waves of tuna, standing at least 8 feet tall. On display at the Library as part of Canstruction, an organization that promotes the end of hunger through creative means. Design teams compete for the best creation, and in the end the cans go to local food banks.

Full Frontal Crape Myrtle

A week ago, I posted a close up photo of the hot pink crape myrtle tree in our front yard. For Kala, here is the full view.

They're not real!

This is also on the Riverwalk. When I saw these "trees" I was in awe, but then Thien and Sarah informed me they were not real (I still tested them out myself to make sure, they were right.) Kind of a let down, but still very cool.

Four Things

The riverwalk, sunshine, an ugly bridge and a beautiful mosaic.

Enter at your own risk!

While strolling along the Riverwalk near the library we came upon this entry way (or exit depending on if your coming or going). I really liked the design, it reminded me of something you would see in a castle. I'm not sure where these stairs go, so we can all just use our imaginations and make up our own opinions about where they lead to. Possible time warp??

I want the corner office

I was walking out of the doctor's office, looked around and saw this building. I can't remember the name of it but it's an office building now and also part of river boat tours. It's really weird to look at it from this angle (same angle as on the boat) b/c it looks like just a building front. I should have gone in to see what the inside was like .

Cute Little Guy

See how well he blends in? There are more lizards, bugs, mosquitoes, worms, roaches, spiders and other creepy crawlies in south Texas than anywhere I've lived before! Most aren't as cute as this little guy and can often startle you!

Crape Myrtle

We had a discussion of Crape Myrtle trees on Wednesday. The hot pink ones are my favorites, this was taken in my front yard this morning after a thunderstorm rolled through. Having such vivid color during the hot/dry months is so refreshing.

Frozen Drinks

Taken on the library staff balcony. What do you do for fun at work?

Under the Bridge

A little while ago Thien posted a photo of the bridge by the library. Here is a shot of the same bridge from the riverwalk level. I took this early in the morning when the riverwalk was nice and cool.

Hot and cool is a big deal in south Texas in the summer when most days it tops out at 100 F (37 C). I believe it was already 82 F (28 C) when I took this photo at 7:00 am!

Smart

Saw this truckload of Smart Cars on the way home, east side of SA. Shorty saw the same truckload on the west side of town. They were so cute and with the gas prices as they are, I thought maybe I should look into these.

Dinner and a Concert

Friday night we managed to escape a bit and took in the John Prine concert after a great meal at El Mirador, one of my favorite restaurants. The concert was at the Majestic Theatre, which hosts all sorts of concerts, plays, ballets, musicals and so on. I love it. I tried to take a picture inside but I just could not get a great shot with the lighting situation. The show was fantastic and we had a fabulous time.
