Fireworks Stand

Slice o' the Sky

This is one of the library's 3rd floor terraces. I really liked how the dark areas took a slice of the brilliantantly blue and cloudy sky. The steeple is the church next to the hospital which is right across the library.

Downtown Lofts on San Pedro

I like this building for all the art is has—all four walls. I really like this little girl or whatever it is. It's also got a Wall of Fame around to the right of the white wall. I used to pass this building almost everyday on the way to work and I always had to smile when I looked at that green hair and silver boots.

SAMA

Building, sky, wired and a telephone pole. This is a rather famous silhouette in San Antonio, as the former home to the Lone Star Brewery, it is now the San Antonio Museum of Art.

Nightclubbin'

SADP goes nightclubbing? No! This was taken in what's called the 'blue room', the entry way to the library. The artist designed it to be soothing, a place to leave the outside world.

Robert E. Lee Apartments

I always think it's funny to see this building advertise that it is 100% air conditioned. I guess back in the day you had to tell people that. The people that live here currently are mostly seniors I think, and you can only make so much else you can't live there—there's also no parking.

Raspas!

Friday I posted a picture about ice cream...but maybe that isn't your thing. How about a nice raspa instead? Also called sno-cones, a raspa is shaved ice with a fruit syrup or fruit juice poured over the top. Mmmm.....

Southside Cafe

This is a little hole in the wall restaurant on the Southside of San Antonio. I'm always amazed at the different things people put on the outsides of their buildings.

Navarro Mosaic

I love this mosaic found on the riverwalk. Navarro was born in Bexar County (where one can find San Antonio) in 1795 and was active politically within the territory. He was one of the original signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence and once famously stated: "I have sworn to be a Texan. I shall not forswear." This mural is found at Navarro Street.

Only one out of the four of us is a native Texan. Can you guess which one?

I Scream, You Scream...

Ug. Despite the 30 seconds or rain that parts of the city had yesterday, its been really really hot here. We are now in Stage 1 of water restrictions. Makes me want to sit around and eat ice cream.

More OLLU

We so wanted to slide down this thing. On our outting to Our Lady of the Lake University (see Sarah's post July 11), this was one of the coolest things we discovered! Not that I would want to see anyone in danger but it would be neat to see someone actually on this slide.

Alamo City

San Antonio is often known as the Alamo City, due to our most famous landmark, the Alamo. Just north of downtown is the Alamo Quarry Market, site of the old Alamo Cement Plant. The shopping center kept some of the original landmarks, including these old smokestacks. In the photo on the website, you can see how tall they really are! In a pretty flat city, you can see these from pretty far away sometimes.

Building Reflection

This posting was inspired by Mike & Liz from the Dallas Picture Blog. I like to take pics of reflections, and it's nice to know that other's do too. I originally took a pic of the top window and a second pic of the bottom window, but then decided to get the whole shot. This is a downtown hotel, the Adams Mark I think.

Arches from the site of the Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo on the south side of San Antonio.

Vertical Scape of the Milam Building

If I'm not mistaken this is the Milam building downtown. On the first floor of this building they have a diner called the Milam Diner. I like their way of cooking homestyle. Their turkey burgers are great, and they make gravy old style, the way my mom and Ama used to.

Seeing the firescape on this building, I've always wondered why the old building have them and not the new? Must be some change in building techniques or code. Anyone out there know?

Craft Center Fountain

This fountain is located at the Craft Center located behind the library where we work. We've posted pics from the Center before but there are so many great shots over there.

Downtown Bench

Red Eye

Sarah, Sonia and I saw this bird on our walk along the river on one of our outtings. His red eyes are a little creepy.
