Chicken Dance

Taken at a San Antonio Missions AA minor league baseball game. From left to right, the Missions mascot Ballepeno, Church's Chicken mascot (a sponsor), and the Corpus Christi Hooks mascot.

But what I really want to know is do you know how to do the Chicken Dance?

Candy anyone?

On one of our excursions around SA, Sonia took us to Toudouze. It's a gigantic warehouse full of candy!! It was wild. Lots of candies I haven't seen or thought about in ages. Very fun. And I really dig the candy van.

Pat O'Brien Cryer

This is Pat O'Brien's across the street from RiverCenter Mall in downtown San Antonio. I always get a kick at the man in the funny hat yelling out, trying to entice people into his place of business. This business is almost directly opposite this photo that Thiên took back in May.

Tool Yard

picture 018

The other night I went to drop off my husband at a budget hearing for the City. I was pleasantly surprised by the City of SA facility b/c it was so cool! In the yard were all these oversized tools as sculptures and then I saw these benches. I thought it was a very cool idea. The facility has meeting rooms and serves as a service point for City departments. It was too dark for pictures of the sculptures but I'll go back sometime soon perhaps. It's way on the north side of town for me and I don't get up there often.

Shoe Repair

Just west of downtown, I love this little old shoe repair building.

Candy

This is at one of our branch libraries. They were celebrating their 2nd birthday and when I walked into the back room, I just really liked how totally red the balloons are, just hanging there. Made me think of cherry flavored candies.

Turnaround!

Driving on Texas highways is a different experience! And I've drive all over the United States. If you are new to Texas highways...you must learn the Turnaround!

Often when I see the signs, I start singing the Bonnie Tyler song, Total Eclipse of the Heart. :)

Happy Birthday Sarah!

It's the birthday girl's big day. We took Sarah to one of her fav restaurants (Tong's Thai) and what you see is red curry tofu. Yum!

Texas Highway

This is a painting of a highway on the south side of San Antonio—either 90 or 35. I saw this kind of stuff a few years back on the way to California, can't remember what state, but we passed through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I thought at the time that it would be nice if more cities did it.

An elaborate building downtown on a sunny day.

Here's another shot of the same building. —Shorty

In and Out of SA

This is the view I see every afternoon/evening as I'm coming home from San Antonio.

This is the view I see every morning as I'm driving into San Antonio.

IDOLers

This is the Alamdome, where the Spurs played after they left the Convention Center and before they got the AT&T center. The people you see in line are hoping to try out for the new season of American Idol. The line starts around the corner (left side of the pic) and goes around the other corner of the building (the right side of the pic). I would say the line encircles the building halfway—and it's not a small building.

Skulls

I've seen this van many a few times across the street at the hospital. They also have skull decals on the side of the van and they used to have a skull tied to their front grill, but not this time. I always wonder what their deal is.

Tacos!

In San Antonio, people routinely eat breakfast tacos for breakfast. You can strike up a conversation with just about anyone asking them where their favorite place is for tacos.

Breakfast tacos are small tortillas filled with different combinations. Some favorites around here include bacon & egg, chorizo & egg, potato & egg, bean & cheese, or even barbacoa.

What do you have for breakfast?

Delays

My drive to work is usually not that bad—and this day, irregardless of the sign it wasn't too bad either. The highway quite a bit further north was tied up because of a bad accident. We were able to avoid all but just a smidge of the traffic.

Baptist Medical Center Skyway

This is the hospital across the street from the Library. That skyway connects the parking garage across the street where the helipad is located. It connects to the 6th floor of the hospital which is where surgery is located.

UTSA Downtown Campus

This is the downtown campus of the University of San Antonio at Texas. I think it's a nice building. On the othe side there is an art installation that you can see from the highway. A bit ago this building had problems because the tiles were falling onto the sidewalks. The people who work and go to school here are lucky during Fiesta, they can walk to many events.

SegCity

I saw this group on my way into work this morning. They were gliding smoothly along downtown and were checking out San Fernando Cathedral. I would really like to try the Segway and see how it feels. Girls, we should do this as one of our outtings!

You can check out a directory of different cities offering these tours. Here's the one for SA.

Isolated Showers

When meteorologists say this, I guess they mean it. We saw this on the way home right before vacation. It looked so cool. We need the rain badly around here.

Mall Life

This is at one of the most popular malls in SA, Northstar. We were sitting and waiting on our son as he shopped inside Hollister (not the gun company as Sonia thought when I mentioned this).

Have you notice the youths have "uniforms" they wear? Baggy shorts, kind of raggedy, tshirt and longish hair. The boys look the same, the girls all look alike...sigh. Why is it so hard to just be you when you're young?

Should have gone to grab a bite at the restaurant across the way. ;)

Gym

A boxing gym on the west side of San Antonio. There were boxers milling about just before I took the picture, but they looked hot and I didn't want to disturb them by taking their picture. They were boxers afterall.
