Raspas!

Friday I posted a picture about ice cream...but maybe that isn't your thing. How about a nice raspa instead? Also called sno-cones, a raspa is shaved ice with a fruit syrup or fruit juice poured over the top. Mmmm.....

  3. kala...no I didn't. in reality, shaved ice isn't really my favorite treat, and i very rarely order them!

  4. I had never tried shaved ice until a few years ago. Raspas are more like very small crushed ice—a rougher texture than shaved ice—but I love them both, and slushees too.

  5. I love the name... so much more than 'snow cone' ~ Raspas~ it sounds so promising... shaved ice and fruit juice.. I could go for that right now!

  6. when i was a kid, the raspa vendors would set up their carts in the grocery stores parking lots on fridays and saturday when the people would get paid and go grocery shopping on the weekends because stores were not opened on sundays. the vendors would set up their carts and have block ice under canvas covers. whenever someone wanted to buy one, the vendor would have an odd looking device that would scrape the ice onto the chamber of which he would open after filling it up and put it in the paper cup to build it up. then he had different flavors of syrup for you to choose from. some would mix them up like pineapple and cherry, grape, etc.
